El estilo de vida de Playa del Carmen
Un ciclo constante de gente que viene y pasa y otros que se quedan

Durante los últimos 10 años, la ciudad de Playa del Carmen en el estado de Quintana Roo ha sufrido un crecimiento económico, de infraestructura y turístico, pero principalmente migratorio, gente de distintas partes de la República Mexicana y de otros lugares del mundo han elegido este lugar para establecerse.
Hace muchos años Playa del Carmen era un pequeño pueblo pesquero y un punto de embarque hacia la isla de Cozumel, mientras que ahora está considerado como uno de los principales destinos de playa en el mundo.
Pero aparte de todo este boom turístico por el que pasa, hay una situación más interesante, la ciudad de Playa del Carmen registra el índice de migración más alto de todo el país. Principalmente son jóvenes los que escogen este lugar para vivir, ya sea por una temporada corta durante el verano, o para quedarnos algunos años.
Los que decimos que sólo es por unos meses, ya que estamos aquí nos damos cuenta que nos enamoramos de su gente, de sus colores, de sus olores, de su dinamismo y de su magia y decidimos quedarnos, pero ¿qué es lo que los jóvenes de México y del mundo entero vemos en este lugar? ¿Qué vivimos? ¿Qué sentimos? ¿Qué experimentamos? ¿Qué es lo que hace que nos queramos quedar, o que una vez que nos vamos queramos regresar?
Para algunos es un sueño, para otros una aventura, unos buscamos vivir una experiencia distinta, esperamos tener una oportunidad, o que se abra una puerta que nos permita salir de la ciudad o de la rutina de todos los días. Puede ser que aquí nos sentimos comprendidos porque hay tanta gente diferente, que no puedes no encajar, siempre vas a encontrar alguien con quién platicar o alguien con quien convivir y aún cuando esa persona nueva con la que te cruzas en La Quinta, te atiende en el restaurant o en el bar, o es tu vecino de toalla en la playa, no tiene nada que ver contigo, sabes que al menos tienen algo en común, eligieron el mismo lugar para vivir, para venir de vacaciones, para experimentar algo nuevo y continuar por la vida.
Caminando por las calles te das cuenta que durante el día la vida en Playa es tranquila, el coche puede ser sustituido por una bicicleta o una moto y así ahorrarte las horas que en las grandes ciudades desperdiciamos en el tráfico de la mañana o el mediodía.
Durante el día la gente va a la playa, o de excursión a alguno de los lugares turísticos de la región, otros prefieren salir a caminar y probar la comida de los restaurantes que hay. A medida que se mete el sol y la temperatura baja, podemos caminar sin calor por La Quinta, comer una nieve, tomar un café helado, o un postre y estar listos para la noche que es muy diferente del día. La noche está llena de vida, de fiesta, desde pequeños bares con música suave, pasando por discotecas con ritmos caribeños, hasta la más nueva música electrónica. Todo esto lo puedes disfrutar no solo cuando estás de vacaciones, sino también una vez que vives en este lugar.
Es curioso como los que recién llegan, todavía andan de prisa, quieren llegar rápido a todos lados, se preocupan por la hora, la fecha, lo que tienen que hacer, pero después de que están aquí durante algunas semanas, se dan cuenta que es mejor acoplarse al estilo de vida de Playa del Carmen, a la vida relajada y sencilla que se experimenta en todos los pueblos costeros de México.
Así es el estilo de vida de Playa del Carmen, dinámico e interesante, es un ciclo constante de gente que se va, otros que se quedan y otros que solo van de paso, pero que tienen algo en común al haber elegido este lugar para pasar un tiempo de su vida, probar suerte, establecerse o simplemente descansar y disfrutar.

During the last ten years, the city of Playa del Carmen in the state of Quintana Roo has suffered an economical, development, and commercial growth, but mainly migratory. People from different parts of the Mexican Republic, and other places in the world have chosen this place to settle.
Many years ago Playa del Carmen, was just a small fishermen village, and a boarding port to the island of Cozumel, but now it is considered as one of the main beach destinations in the world.
But besides this touristic boom that it’s going on, there is something more interesting, the city of Playa del Carmen registers the highest migration record all over the country. Young people are mainly the ones that choose this place to live, even if it is for a short time during the summer, or to stay for a few years.
The ones that say that it’s only for a few months, once we are here we realize that we fall in love with its people, its colors, its smells, its dynamism, and its magic, and we decide that we want to stay, but what is what young people from Mexico and the whole world see in this place? What is what we live? What do we feel? What do we experience? What is what makes us want to stay, or once we leave we want to come back?
For some it is a dream, for others an adventure, a few are looking forward to live a different experience; we hope to have a chance, a door that opens and lets us leave the city or daily routine. It can be that we feel understood because there is so many different people, that you can’t feel not part of it, you will always find someone to talk to, someone to spend some time with, and even when that new person that you walk by on La Quinta, serves you at the restaurant or bar, or is your towel neighbor at the beach, has nothing to do with you, at least you know that there’s something in common, you chose the same place to live, to come on vacation, or to experience something new and continue through life.
Walking on the streets you realize that life in Playa during the day is tranquil, a car can be changed for a bicycle or a scooter, and you can save hours that in big cities are wasted in the morning or midday traffic jam.
During the day people go to the beach, or on a guided tour to one of the touristic sites of the region, some others prefer to go for a walk and try the food at the restaurants that you can find. When the sun starts to set, and the temperature lowers, we can take a not so hot walk on La Quinta, eat ice cream, drink a cold coffee, or have a dessert, and be ready for the night that is way different than the day. The night is full of life, full of party, from small bars with soft music, and discotheques with Caribbean rhythms, to the newest electronic music. But all this you can enjoy it not only when you are on vacation, but also once you live in this place.
It’s funny how the ones that just get here, are still in a hurry, they want to get fast everywhere, they are worried about time, and the things that they have to do, but after they are here for a few weeks, they realize that it is better to get used to the life style in Playa del Carmen, the relaxed and simple life that it is experienced in every single beach town in Mexico.
This is the life style of Playa del Carmen, dynamic and interesting, it is a constant cycle of people that leave, others that stay, and a few that just pass by, but they all have something in common, choosing this place to spend some time of their life, try luck, settle, or simply rest and enjoy.
